Program Schedule of Past--98 Rally
T-Shirts!

The Rally was held at St. John's College in Annapolis, Maryland from June 19 to 22, 1998.

The College is across the street from the U. S. Naval Academy.

The Clan Genealogist asks that everyone, regardless of attendance, provide a copy of their ancestor tree for the records. This can be in hard copy or disk form if the electronic format is identified. So even if you can't come, please send or update your pedigree.

REGISTRATION:
Registration will be by individual family units. The cost, to cover expenses, will be $20.00 for each family member age 18 and over. Individuals under age 18 will be registered at no charge.

HOUSING:
We have arranged for exclusive use of the dorms at the College where most of the Rally events will be held. These dorm rooms are rather large and quite well appointed with two twin beds in each room. Youngsters may also stay in these rooms with adults at no additional charge, but should bring sleeping bags, etc. The college may provide pillows. The cost of a bed for an adult is a single registration fee of $10 and a linen charge of $7 and then $35 per night. For three nights this would amount to $122. There are twenty single rooms, for those who will require singles, which will be let on the basis of the earliest reservation request. Singles may be asked to double-up if space requires it.

You may also make arrangements, on your own, for housing in the Annapolis area. Bear in mind that it is the tourist season and accommodations may be scarce and perhaps pricey. There is a Holiday Inn at the Annapolis Mall about two miles away and a Marriott within walking distance. However, we would encourage the use of the College.

RV's may be used and parked in a special lot at the College near the waterfront. There is a $35/night fee but there are no hookups available.
The College does not have a day care center, but sitting service may be arranged through the College if we are advised in advance.

MEALS:
Food service will be available for all, whether a resident or commuting, at the College, at a cost of $4 for breakfast, $5 for lunch, and $8 for dinner. Food is catered by Bon Appetit and is excellent in variety, quality and quantity. It is not your typical college fare.

A banquet and Irish Ceili will be held Saturday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and the cost will be $35 per adult ($25 < age 18), including entertainment.

On Sunday afternoon and evening there will be a traditional Maryland Crabfeast on the grounds of the College, near the Boathouse and waterfront. Additional fare will be available for those who prefer inland feasts and there will be entertainment under a large tent. Friends and other non registered guests will be permitted at the Ceili and Crabfeast if ticketed in advance.

FIELD TRIPS:
On Monday there will be three different field trips to choose from. All will leave on a bus at 9:00 a.m. and the price for bus transportation will be $8.00 per person.

Tour A will visit the National Archives on the Mall in Washington, D.C. where they will be given a tour of the Nation's historic documents and will then visit the genealogical research area of the archives where there is a special orientation and an opportunity to review old census, immigration and military records. This group will be guided. There will also be a nominal individual charge for riding the subway ("Metro") from the bus into downtown.

Tour B will likewise depart the bus and travel by subway to the Mall. This group will design their own individual excursion to the Smithsonian Museums on the Mall such as Air and Space, Natural History, Science, and the Art Galleries. This group will not be formally guided but will be oriented and will likely have individuals familiar with both the locations and transportation sites.

Tour C will also depart on the bus and will visit the birthplace and home of John Carroll, Darnall's Chance. There is a modest entrance fee. Following this facet of the tour, everyone will travel by bus to the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception where there will be a guided tour, dutch lunch and an opportunity to roam the grounds, pray and shop before being reunited with the Tours A & B and returning to Annapolis.

SOCIAL AND FELLOWSHIP AREA:
A registration and social area will be available from Friday at 3:00 p.m. in the Randall Hall Common Room and the Boat House until 10 p.m.. On Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. it will be in the Randall Hall Common Room. Bring your genealogy, pictures, and stories and share the joy of our heritage with each other. We plan to make a video of the registration and special events for sharing with future meetings and each other.

Click here for a picture of Dr. J. S. Egan of Ireland, who has been nominated for Chieftain, and Stephen Egan, son of Kevin Egan (both of Australia). Dr. J. S. and Kevin met while Kevin was doing genealogical research.

TRANSPORTATION:
For those who will be flying, the most convenient airport is Baltimore/Washington International (BWI), From BWI there is a convenient shuttle which will bring you directly to your destination; small groups might even negotiate a taxi. It is not far (perhaps 25 miles) from the Reagan Washington National Airport and about 20 miles farther to Dulles International Airport. Call the SuperShuttle at 1-800-258-3826 to get information or reservations at any of these airports.

PARKING:
There is a considerable amount of parking at and around the College, which will not be in session.

COMMEMORATIVE T-SHIRTS:
We will have Rally T-shirts, with the AODAGAIN crest and motto. These are 100% cotton, preshrunk.

IRISH NIGHT:
We are recruiting "a few good Irishmen" to complement the program on Sunday evening. If you sing, dance, play an instrument or tell stories, let us know with a note on the form and we will try to work it in.
