Structure and Management

The Research Data Network CRC consists of four research projects and one infrastructure project. These are based in Canberra, Brisbane, and Melbourne, with industry and academic representation on Boards. Each project has its own set of partners and is managed by an independent Board of Management. All chairs represented on the Boards of Management were sought for their independence and are all recognised leaders in industry or universities. The Boards regularly review research progress and set milestones for each year in response to rapid changes in technology in this area.

Cooperation between the projects is encouraged and directed by the Coordination Committee. The full Committee met in-person three times during 1997/98, and the members kept in regular contact via electronic mail. Up until December 1997, cooperation between projects was strengthened with joint trials of applications over Telstra The centre culture of a strong collaborative environment and Australian research representation was furthered through joint participation at conferences and exhibitions such as the Asia Pacific Conference on Communications (APCC) in Sydney and the 7th International World Wide Web Conference in Brisbane.
