The TAR Project conducts research directed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of text retrieval techniques. It has a focus on data distribution, both in the sense of using clusters of workstations to improve speed, and in the sense of researching techniques for selecting servers and merging results in an environment like the World Wide Web.
